Interdisciplinary

Throughout this section, I will be looking back on key assignments that not only taught me more knowledge surrounding education, but also inflicted a different point of view on very similar ideas on such education. I hope you enjoy!

Ideal School Project:
Damien Mason Elementary School

Educ 417; Dr. Damien Mason

With this informational group project regarding an ideal school, I learned many facts about safe spaces for classrooms, implementing multicultural education, and using various teaching methods to have a better education for students. One very different view that I managed to inquire about this project was the vast amounts of knowledge it took to design classrooms, gardens, play areas, and many other miscellaneous sectors used by individuals.

Little-by-Little: Appreciating Languages

Engl 341; Professor Theresa Burreal Stone, Ph.D.

This children's book discusses the idea of learning language and puts it into a fun, colorful state meant to grab the attention of young kids in elementary school. While I did learn about the fundamentals of incorporating language in a fun way, I also discovered many memories that I had forgotten. With that melancholic feeling, I was able to reminisce on the people I have met and their language journey.

What Are Progressive Verb Tenses?

Libs 327; Professor Ianthe Brautigan Swensen

This group project had to have been the hardest for me, specifically because of the age group this lesson plan pertained to. While I have been learning about teaching a high school English class, this project really challenged my view on young students learning English in a 4th grade classroom. One view that I didn't think I would have discovered without the help of my fellow classmates was the patience needed to really understand these children. Their minds are still developing, so a lot of their thinking isn't revolved around responsibilities and their future.

The Milky Way's Utopia

Libs 327; Professor Ianthe Brautigan Swensen

This unique and amusing library project really enhanced my creativity and knowledge surrounding libraries. Though entirely made of images, The Milky Way's Utopia does an awesome job at adhering to the imagination of children, parents, and teachers, giving way to endless possibilities of expressiveness. One idea that came about from this project was how important books truly are to our society. The look, meaning, and initial judgement from these books mean so much to a child's education.
